Datuk Verus Aman Sham, ADK, ASDK, PGDK

Chairman

Datuk Verus was born in Kg. Limbahau, Papar, Sabah in 1942. He obtained his BA (Major in Administration & Political Science) from the University of Tasmania, Australia in 1971 and later obtained his MA (Systems & Information Management) in 1985 from the University of Lancaster, England.

He served the Sabah state government over 32 years in various capacities with the Ministry of Communications & Works; the Ministry of Industrial & Rural Development; and subsequently, as the General Manager of Sabah Housing & Town Development Authority until his retirement in 1997.

At the international level, Datuk Verus is a Fellow of the UN Asia Pacific Development Institute, Bangkok since 1972.

At the local scene, he has been an active Committee Member of Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society (SWCS) having been the Chairman of its Infrastructure Sub-Committee until April 2013.

In addition, he is an active member of several social organisations such as Life Member & Founder President (2006-2007) of the Sabah Australian Alumni Association; Member & Past President (2002-2003) of the Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera; Life Member and Vice President (2001-2004) of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association; and Past President (1987-1988) of the Rotary Club of Likas Bay, Kota Kinabalu.

For his services to the state of Sabah, he was awarded the Illustrious Order of Kinabalu – Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK), Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK) and in 1992 – Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) carrying the title ‘Datuk’.

Datuk Hj. Zainie Abdul Aucasa, ADK, ASDK, PGDK

Treasurer

Born in Penampang, Sabah in 1954. A Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), UK and a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He was the Executive Director of Suria Bumira Sdn Bhd before his retirement in early 2012.

Currently, Hj Zainie is the President of Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society (SWCS) and also the President of Sabah Archery Association (SAA) since 2001. He is also the Advisor of St John’s School Alumni Association, Beaufort, Sabah since 2009.

For his service to the state of Sabah, he was awarded the Illustrious Order of Kinabalu – Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK), Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK) and in 2013 the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) carrying the title of ‘Datuk’.

Datuk Hj. Adnan Puteh, ADK, PGDK, JP

Legal Advisor

Hj Adnan was born in Sipitang, Sabah in 1958. He graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a BA in Social Science (Hons) and thereafter, attained his Certificate of Legal Practice from University of Malaya. He also has a Diploma of Islamic Studies from Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

 

A partner of Adnan Puteh & Saleh (Advocates & Solicitors). He is an Ordinary Member of Sabah Law Association and former President of the Association of Muslim Lawyers (AMAL). Besides that, he is also the former Treasurer of the Association of Muslim NGOs (CONCERN) and currently the Chairman of Sabah Ports Authority.

 

In 2003, he was awarded the Justice of Peace (JP), the Illustrious Order of Kinabalu – Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK), and in 2015 the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) carrying the title “Datuk”.

Datin Seri Panglima Dr. Ann Anton, ADK, KMN

Trustee

Dr. Ann was born in Johor Bahru in 1953. She obtained her BSc (Hons) from Universiti Malaya; MSc from the University of Waterloo, Canada; and her PhD from the Ohio Sate University, USA.

Dr. Ann started her career as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia from 1979 to 1995. She went on to become an Associate Professor in the School of Science and Technology in Universiti Malaysia Sabah from 1995 until 1999. Thereafter, she headed the unit for Consultancy and Training Services from 1999 until 2002; Director in the Biotechnology Research Institute from 2002 until 2011; and to her portfolio as a Professor in the Borneo Marine Research Institute of the same university until her retirement in June 2016.

Dr. Ann is a Trustee and Life Member of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS); a Life Member of the Malaysian Applied Biology Society (MABS); Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society (SWCS); a Member of the International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae (ISSHA); Majlis Profesor Negara (National Council of Professors) – Science and Mathematic Cluster; Focus Group on Stratospheric Ozone: Halogen Impacts in a varying Atmosphere (SHIVA); and a member of the Advisory Board of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB). She is also a registered EIA Consultant.

Dr. Ann was awarded the Illustrious Order of Kinabalu – Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) in 2002 and the Bintang Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) in 2003. She was also awarded the Anugerah Penghargaan Saintis Cemerlang in 2005 and Anugerah Tokoh Penyelidik (Kategori Malim) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 2009.

Ahmad Staun, ADK, AMN

Trustee

Encik Ahmad was born in Penampang, Sabah in 1949, spending early school days at St. Michael’s School Penampang and completing Matriculation at St. Virgil’s College Hobart, Tasmania. He obtained his BA (Hons) from the University of Tasmania in 1972 and thereafter, his Diploma in Education from the same university the following year.

His teaching career started in 1975 in Dominic College in Hobart, Tasmania and was appointed as principal of SMK Badin Tuaran (1977-1979), SMK Likas Kota Kinabalu (1979-1981) and Maktab Sabah (1981-1986) on his return to Malaysia and went on to head the West Coast (South) Regional Education Office in Sabah (1986-1995) before his appointment as Chief Assistant Director (Human Development) in the Sabah Education Department. He went on to become Director of Labuan Matriculation College (2000-2003) and Director of Labuan Education Department (2003-2005).

Encik Ahmad’s part involvements are:

Member of Advisory Council Labuan Corporation 2005-2007; Member of Education Service Commission Malaysia 2008-2011; Life Member-PEMADAM; Founding Member and Past President of Association of Secondary School Principals Sabah; Past President Sabah Rugby Union; Past Vice President of the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu and in this connection was an early proponent of Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society (SWCS).

Encik Ahmad is also credited authorship of a book titled “Development in The Third World” published and retailed in Australia.

He was awarded the Illustrious Order of Kinabalu – Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) in 1988 and the Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) in 1994. He was also Tokoh Guru Labuan 2006 and Tokoh Guru Negeri Sabah 2008.

Datuk Dr. Chua Kim Hing, ASDK, PGDK, JSM

Trustee

Born in Kg. Kanibongan, Pitas, Sabah in 1952, Datuk Dr. Chua obtained his BA (Hons) at University of Malaya. He then went to study in the United Kingdom and obtained his M.Soc.Sc. in human resources management and PhD in local government studies in 1993 and 1997 respectively, both from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Datuk Dr. Chua started his career as a teacher, and was trained at the Gaya Teachers Training Institute in 1975. He left the teaching profession and served the Sabah state government as Assistant Director in the Sabah Public Services Department, then the Secretary of the Sabah State Public Services Commission, and later on as the Deputy Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Resource Development and IT (Sabah). His last position in the civil service was as the Director-General of Kota Kinabalu City Hall. Upon his retirement in 2008, he was appointed as a Professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sabah (until December 2013) where he pioneered the setting up of the Local Government Studies Unit. He is also the principal consultant for the implementation of the Anti-Litterbugs Campaign in Sabah.

Datuk Dr. Chua is a member of Majlis Profesor Negara (National Council of Professors) on Public Administration cluster, a Life member of PEMADAM Kota Kinabalu, and Advisor to an NGO (Persatuan Komuniti Kebersihan Sabah).

For his services to the state, Datuk Dr. Chua was awarded the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK) in 2000, Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) in 2007 and the federal award of Johan Setia Mahkota (JSM) in 2009.

Dato’ Ir. John Chee Shi Tong, DIMP, JP

Trustee

Dato’ Ir. John Chee was born in Kota Kinabalu in 1954. He had his early education at All Saints School, Kota Kinabalu. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering [BEng. (Hons.)] from University of Aberdeen, UK in 1994.

A consulting engineer cum property developer, he is the Managing Director of J & M Development Sdn. Bhd. and also Borneo Tropicana Tour & Travel Sdn. Bhd. among others.

Dato’ Ir. John is a Professional Engineer (PE) and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (FIEM). He is currently the Vice President of SHAREDA, an EXCO for the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), Sabah Branch, and a member of the Central Board under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, Sabah. He was the past chairman of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Sabah Branch for 2010/11.

For his services, he was awarded the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) in 2009 carrying the title Dato’, and the Justice of Peace (JP) in 2009.
